Jack Charles

Jack Charles the  gravelly voiced veteran of stage and screen has seen his public profile rise spectacularly over the last few years…but as far as reconciliation is concerned the former self-confessed addict and cat burglar says there are no sane white people that would want to be an Aboriginal in this country.

The founder of Australia’s  first indigenous play group in 1971…shares his thoughts about the national school curriculum and the push to once again censor a part of history.

  1. As a white man can I add that I’m insane? I think what we did in the past is completely unforgivable. We mistreated the natives of America, Australia, New Zealand but the biggest horror was how we treated the native tribes of Africa. It’s time we put things right, but how can we put a price on all those we slaughtered? All we can do is give the indigenous people back their lands and hope they will want to share them with us, whose ancestors treated them so badly.

  2. ‘no sane white people that would want to be an Aboriginal in this country’ you are very wise Jack Charles, around these parts this is true, many are jealous of native people, they call us Indians, many want to be Indians which you just got to wonder about. I am not sure how far they want to go with this quest to be Indians. Being they do tend get their way, who knows soon they may have their own little concentration camps that their government can herd them into so they can be special too.
